Air-filled latex balloons hold their shape for two to three days indoors. Helium-filled latex floats for eight to twelve hours. Foil and chrome balloons last longest — a week or more air-filled. Everything below is about what moves those numbers up or down.
Air-filled or helium: they are not the same product
People book “balloons” and get surprised on the second morning. The difference is simple. Helium makes balloons float, and helium leaks out through latex quickly, so a floating arrangement is an evening, not a weekend. Air-filled balloons do not float — they are taped to frames, walls and ceilings — and they hold far longer because nothing is escaping.
Almost all of what we build is air-filled. Arches, backdrops, ceiling work and garlands are all structures rather than floating clusters, and that is what makes them survive the party.
What shortens the life of a setup
- Direct sun. The worst enemy of a latex balloon. A terrace setup in Kolkata afternoon sun will start to look tired within hours; the same setup indoors lasts days.
- Heat and humidity swings. A room that goes from air conditioning to no air conditioning expands and contracts the air inside, and balloons over-inflate and pop. If the AC will be turned off overnight, tell us and we under-fill slightly.
- Rough walls and ceilings. Latex against a rough finish abrades. It is a small thing, but it is why a setup on a plastered wall outlasts the same setup against exposed brick.
- Children. Not a fault in the balloons.
What to ask for, depending on when you need it
If everything happens in one evening, helium clusters are fine and they look lighter. If you want the room still decorated when people wake up — and for a birthday at home, you usually do — ask for air-filled and say so at the time of booking, because it changes how the setup is built and not just what goes into it.
Can you keep the balloons afterwards?
Foil and chrome balloons, yes — deflate them through the valve and they can be re-inflated. Latex, no. We take the frames and stands away when we clear up; whatever is stuck to your walls is yours to enjoy for as long as it lasts.
